How analysis and coach review work

Stand your phone up and record in the app, or upload a video you already have. A hands-free session keeps going while you hit ball after ball. GolfAI detects swings in a recording and cuts the detected sections into clips. Clips it can read are analysed and appear as reviews. Analysis is an AI feature: it runs only after you give a separate agreement in the app, and it sends your video outside the Sydney server. Where your video goes

Step through eight swing stages, from address to finish. Problem frames are marked, and each frame has its own 2D estimates. Once a swing is analysed, it lands in your coach’s review inbox. They confirm or correct the AI’s suggestions and send you feedback. Nothing reaches you as coach feedback until a coach sends it.

Lead arm bending at the top

Keep the lead arm long. Stop the turn before it folds.

Why it matters · how to fix it
Why it matters
A collapsing lead arm shortens the swing radius and can make the strike inconsistent.
Try this
Keep width: push the hands away from your chest in the backswing, and stop the turn when the arm starts to fold.
Drill
Towel under the arms. Keep your arms and chest turning together so the lead arm stays long.

In the app, your coach confirms or corrects a suggestion like this before it is sent to you as coach feedback. The guided drill is picked by GolfAI for your level, not by your coach.

Frame estimates and reference ranges
Head sway
−27%Outside the steady rangeSideways from address, as a share of torso length. Steady is within 10%.
Hip shift
0%Within the usual rangeSideways from address, as a share of torso length. Positive is toward the target; the usual range is from 12% away to 30% toward it.
Lead arm

Angles are image-plane estimates; reference ranges are the app’s own rules of thumb, not a validated ideal. A straight arm is 180°, and the app’s lead-arm standard is at least 155°.

Step 1 of 5

Trap a towel across your chest, under both armpits.

Know when it feels right

Checkpoint
The towel stays in place and your backswing stops before your lead elbow bends.

Avoid
Squeezing the towel so tight that your shoulders cannot turn. Hold it just firmly enough.

Before you swing
Indoors, check you have room to swing: ceiling, lights, furniture, people and pets.

Feedback from your coach, and AI suggestions from GolfAI Coach

  • Your own coach confirms or corrects the AI suggestions on each analysed swing and sends you feedback.
  • GolfAI Coach, an AI that watches and talks with you live, in English or Mandarin.
  • A hands-free session that clips the swings it finds while you keep hitting. With your AI agreement, each clip is analysed and GolfAI Coach, an AI, can talk you through it.
  • Photo check, an AI check of one still photo; an AI chat about any recording; and “Ask GolfAI Coach”, an AI assistant that knows your history.
  • Pick how GolfAI Coach talks: balanced, detailed, disciplined or encouraging. Your level (beginner, intermediate or advanced) decides how many numbers the app shows you.

GolfAI Coach is software, and its voice is AI-generated, not a recording of a person. It gives suggestions; only what your coach sends is shown as coach feedback. Like swing analysis, it runs only after your separate AI agreement. The video of each live session, with both voices, is saved to your practice library unless you switch that off in the session settings. It sends camera snapshots and your voice to computing in Australia and mainland China and to OpenAI or Google in the United States. Where your data goes. Live sessions need an internet connection and a supported device, and live time is limited each day.

Coach access and review details
  • A review inbox

Each analysed swing your golfers record arrives already clipped and checked against the swing standard, in one list. Analysis needs the golfer’s AI agreement; a swing that was not analysed, or that the app could not read, stays out of the queue.

  • Golfers assigned to coaches

An administrator assigns golfers to coaches. The service can be set so each coach sees only their assigned golfers; otherwise every coach sees every golfer’s practice.

  • You control what is sent

Confirm or correct each AI suggestion, add your note and send it, or dismiss the swing. Until you send it, nothing reaches the golfer as coach feedback. The golfer still sees the app’s own analysis and what GolfAI Coach says.

  • Beside the bay, not inside it

GolfAI runs on the golfer’s phone. It does not connect to your simulator and needs nothing installed on it.

GolfAI on your phone compared with a dedicated launch-monitor device and a lesson with a coach
What you wantGolfAI on your phoneA dedicated launch-monitor deviceA lesson with a coach
What you need Your phone and a stand. No other device to buy. Access through a participating coach or venue, and an internet connection. The device, room to set it up, and usually a phone or tablet for its app. A booking, and travel to where the coach teaches.
Ball data: ball speed, launch, spin, carry Weaker here Estimates from video only, each labelled as an estimate. Measured numbers appear only if you enter them from a simulator. Strongest here Measured. This is what these devices are built for. Read from the ball flight by eye, or measured if the coach uses a launch monitor.
Body movement 2D body keypoints from one camera: eight stages, problem frames and a ten-item swing standard, of which one camera position covers up to eight. Not 3D. Most measure the ball and the club, not the body. Some add camera-based body tracking. Strongest here Seen in person, from any angle, by a trained eye.
Feedback you can act on AI suggestions once a swing is analysed, each with why it matters, what to try and a drill. Coach feedback when your coach confirms and sends it. Numbers after every shot. Working out what to change is mostly left to you or to the device’s app. Strongest here A person who watches, explains and adjusts to you on the spot.
Internet, and where your video goes Weaker here Needs an internet connection. Recordings go to GolfAI’s server in Sydney; once you agree, the AI features send them on to computing in Australia and mainland China and to OpenAI and Google in the United States. Depends on the device and its app. Read the maker’s privacy policy to see what is uploaded. Nothing is recorded unless you or your coach film the lesson.
Cost No public price yet: GolfAI is in a pilot. Access today is through participating coaches and venues. A purchase. Prices vary widely by model, and some features need a subscription. Paid per lesson or package, set by the coach or venue.
Club data: club speed, path, face angle Weaker here Club speed as an estimate from video. No club path or face angle from phone video; you can enter those numbers from a simulator. Strongest here Measured on many devices. Which numbers you get depends on the model. Judged by the coach from the swing and the ball flight.
The moment of impact Weaker here Limited by your phone’s video frame rate. At normal video speed, impact usually falls between two frames. Strongest here Captured by radar or high-speed cameras, depending on the device. Too fast to see by eye. Coaches work from ball flight, video or a launch monitor.
Between lessons Compare any two saved swings. Analysed swings feed your progress, and your coach can review them without being there. Shot history in the maker’s app; some also save swing video. Whether a coach can review it depends on the product. What you remember, plus any notes or video your coach gives you.
On the course A scorecard, a club suggestion from your own distances and GPS shot distance (an estimate, good to a few metres at best, carry and roll together). No course maps. Depends on the device. Some have a course mode; many are built for the range or a bay. A playing lesson, where a coach offers one.

“A dedicated launch-monitor device” means radar and camera units in general. What each one measures and costs depends on the model, so check the maker’s specifications. GolfAI is not a launch monitor and does not replace one, or a coach.

Practical answers

Questions, answered plainly.

Something we haven’t answered? Ask us directly.

What do I need to get started?

A phone with a camera, an internet connection and somewhere steady to stand the phone; a tripod works best. GolfAI is in a pilot and access is through a participating coach or venue, by invitation, so start by sending us an enquiry. For a good recording, choose a well-lit position that keeps your whole body and club in frame, outside the swing area. Follow the venue’s filming rules and keep other people out of your recording.

Which phones does it run on?

There is an Android app, and a web app that runs in your phone’s browser. There is no iPhone app in the App Store. On an iPhone you would use the web app in Safari; we have not finished testing it on iPhones, so ask us before you rely on it.

What can the analysis tell me, and what can’t it?

GolfAI works from the body keypoints it finds in your video: where your head, shoulders, arms, hips and knees were at each of eight swing stages, and how they changed between frames. These are 2D estimates from one camera, not 3D motion capture, and the camera angle, the lighting and anything blocking the view all affect them. It does not see the club face and it does not track the ball. What it shows are AI suggestions, which your coach can confirm or correct. Only feedback a human coach sends is shown as coach feedback.

Are the shot numbers measured?

No. Club speed, ball speed, carry and spin worked out from your video are estimates, and the app labels each one as an estimate. GolfAI does not measure the ball or the club face from your phone’s video. Measured numbers appear only when you enter them yourself from a simulator, and they are shown separately from the estimates.

Does this work with my indoor simulator?

GolfAI runs on your phone beside the simulator and does not connect to it. After a shot you can enter the numbers your simulator measured, and the app shows them next to the body analysis for that swing. Without them, the app estimates some shot numbers, such as club speed, carry and spin, from your swing video and labels each one as an estimate; they are not launch-monitor measurements. Camera and microphone features depend on device permissions.

Does it work for left-handed golfers?

Yes. GolfAI works for left- and right-handed golfers.

What does my coach see and control?

Your coach gets each analysed swing in a review inbox, with the app’s 2D estimates and AI suggestions. They confirm or correct them and send you feedback. Nothing reaches you as coach feedback until a coach sends it. Coaches and administrators with access can see all of your saved practice, not only the swing in the inbox: recordings, analyses, AI feedback, labels and highlights. They can add labels and notes, and delete recordings. Depending on how the service is set up, that means every coach on the service or only the coaches you are assigned to.

Which languages does GolfAI Coach speak?

English and Mandarin. GolfAI Coach is an AI, and its voice is AI-generated, not a recording of a person.

How are my practice images used?

Saved practice is stored on GolfAI’s server in Sydney, Australia, where your account and authorised staff access controls apply. Optional AI features send your images, video, voice, body keypoints and the text of your conversations to computing in Australia and mainland China, and to OpenAI and Google in the United States. A record of each request to GolfAI Coach is also stored on GolfAI’s server in mainland China. The AI features only run after you give a separate agreement in the app, which you can withdraw at any time. Only record people you have permission to film, and read the Privacy Policy for the details.

What does it cost?
